Singapore and Tectonic Plate Boundaries

Singapore is located in the Northern Hemisphere of the world and is set on the Eurasian plate, but not near the divergent boundary itself. The Eurasian plate is home to over 4.6 billion people and contains most of Europe and Asia.

In terms of geologic activity, the Eurasian plate holds a steady amount of seismic activity. Although there is plenty of seismic activity on the pacific rim of fire, Singapore isn't in that zone. Meaning that the level of earthquake that is experienced is quite low level.

However, not being on a fault or plate boundary doesn't mean that they do not feel earthquakes. Singapore still gets small earthquakes from time to time. Just not on a massive scale. Countries that are on the Rim of Fire such as Japan, get massive earthquakes due to being on the boundary.

  1. Hello there Casey, this was a really cool piece to get an understanding about and to know about too. Even though Singapore is a very small island and where it is located, it still manages to avoid some bad situation naturally due to where they sit on the world and plate boundaries. It is also good they don't get hit directly but could still be affected by others things that ripple off one island or where every they may be coming.

  2. Hello Casey, this was a very informative blog and i think you did a great job of explaining the tectonic plates around Singapore. I had no idea really where it lied compared to the plates and now knowing makes a lot more sense with why don't experience many earthquakes. Singapore is such a cool place and with being on a fault line I don't know much much of it would last so that is good it is not. I thought this was a great post!
